Bio

interdisciplinary artist and researcher living and working in Amsterdam. Her projects aim to expand understandings of corporeal selfhood and forms-of-life in relation to a surrounding environment. Much of her practice is based in archival research in history of the life sciences, as well as self-experiments using medical equipment, prosthetic implants, and biological specimens. Her work has been exhibited at the 2020 Rencontres Internationales Paris/Berlin, as well as the deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum, Fonds d'art contemporain Genève, Universiteitsmuseum Utrecht, and the Rijksmuseum Boerhaave, among others. Ana María completed her MFA from the Yale University School of Art, and was a resident artist at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten. She has held fellowships at the Max Planck Institute for History of Science, the Beinecke Rare Books and Manuscripts Library, and the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities and Social Sciences. Currently Ana María is the Michelle Larose Artist-in-Residence at the Osler Library of the History of Medicine at McGill University, as well as a fellow at the Mutations Theme Group at Akademie Schloss Solitude.
